Tiger tourists and park visitors in 20-passenger
vehicles called canters scan one of Ranthambhore's man-made lakes for a
glimpse of the main attraction, a Bengal tiger. An estimated 1,500
remain in India about 300 miles southeast of New Delhi. The supporters of the preservation of the environment in India fight to save the
once-ubiquitous Royal Bengal tiger, whose numbers have decreased because
of illegal hunting and the loss of their homes.
